Megan Thynne & John Davis visit with All Ireland Cup
In October 2017, Dunsany NS held a reception to welcome back our past pupil Megan Thynne, All Ireland Camogie medal winner. Megan accompanied by her mum Dawn and the winning team manager John Davis, gave an inspiring talk to all pupils about the importance of sport/doing what you enjoy most. Megan talked about the importance of accepting defeat in whatever it is you do and getting back up again and keeping on going. John Davis paid tribute to Megan’s great team spirit and can-do attitude. He told us all what a beautiful and modest person Megan is and how valued she is amongst her team members. Mrs Bockett recalled those very same qualities in Megan while she was a pupil in Dunsany NS.
Congratulations Megan, John and team on your All Ireland Win! A wonderful achievement.
Sports for All Day 2017
The weather was on our side this year for our Sports Day in June 2017. It was a very active and fun day for all. Competitive for some too! Check out the pictures of the parents’ races! Out thanks to Dunsany GFC who welcome us onto their pitch every year for this popular Sports for All Day.
Open Afternoon June 2017
We held a different type of Open Afternoon this year. We opened our classrooms with their laid out work stations on Sunday afternoon, 11 June 2017. We had great attractions inside and out. Our student body and new pupils (and some past pupils!) got to enjoy each other’s company, have fun at all the outdoor play stations, enjoy some lovely treats (supplied by mums and dads) and show off their work stations all under the supervision of mums and dads, teachers and past pupils. Huge thanks to all who helped make this a very enjoyable afternoon.

We thank all those involved with the Chase over the years, landowners, sponsors, local families, supporters, riders, committee members, Gardaí, vets, farriers, course planners, etc… We are delighted to have been able to honour all those involved at a well attended Chase Dinner Dance on 11 November 2016.

1916 Flag Presentation – Lá Speisialta
The 3rd of December 2015 was an auspicious occasion for our whole school community and for our wider community. We were delighted to welcome Lt. Colonel Virling, Private Berrill and to our school for the presentation of the National Flag and Proclamation. Sixth class pupils provided a guard of honour to welcome the members of the Defence Forces on their arrival and on their departure. Members of the local community joined us for the ceremony and Q & A session, and afterwards for a cup of tea.
Locals recalled with interest the visit of the Defence Forces 50 years ago to the school for the 5oth Anniversary of the Easter Rising. The Proclamation presented to the school on that visit was on display at this 2015 event. Some who were pupils then were in attendance again with us on the day.
A memorable day for all.
