Library Trip Autumn 2017
The Middle Room had a great morning at Navan library, learning all about the life and work of a book illustrator. This was a very interesting and creative workshop, held by Meath County Library for Book Week, October 2017.
Big Day Out Autumn 2017 – National Stud
This year’s Big Day Out was to The National Stud and Japanese Gardens in Co. Kildare. We learned lots about horse breeding and rearing and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the gardens. Another good choice for our very popular September whole-school outing – Our Big Day Out!

Servers’ Outing 2017
In June of 2017, Fr Toner and the parish sponsored a trip to the cinema for all the servers of the parish. Jenny Conroy, Kilmessan and Mrs Bockett accompanied the group on this day out. Here the girls come up smelling of lavender – no boys in sight! Too busy dodging the camera!
Knockcree Hostel – 5th & 6th Summer Tour 2017
We had our over-night school tour to Knockcree and Bray, Co. Wicklow for 5th & 6th class in June 2017. We can be seen foraging for bugs (although we didn’t have to look too hard for the ones that ate us alive in the Wicklow heat!), building a 3-man hut from what we could find on the forest floor, (+ mean-looking doormen!), making fire without matches, night-time paddling in the stream and posing outside the hostel with the Sugarloaf in the background.
On Saturday we travelled through Enniskerry village and onto Bray town, where we got to play on the beach and paddle in the sea. Lunch and a spot of retail therapy followed. As you can see the boys were particularly fond of Claires!!
4th Class Tour to Clara Lara Funpark 2017
Whilst 5th and 6th class got to go on their ‘special’ overnight school tour in June 2017, 4th class were not forgotten. In blistering heat, they took off for a long day to Clara Lara Funpark in Wicklow. This has to be one of the most popular venues for our school tours. Seeing Yvonne our SNA, and Mrs Bockett struggle to row out onto the lake is always a good laugh!

Junior Room Library Trip
The Junior Room went to Dunshaughlin Library recently to meet author Juanita Browne. Juanita is a zoologist, science communicator, and writer. Her session introduced the children to our wonderful Irish wildlife, using props, animal images and sounds. Juanita also gave us an insight into her work, books, and natural history documentaries for RTE television and radio. Her book “My First Book of Irish Animals” was shortlisted for the Literacy Association of Ireland’s Children’s Book Award 2015. She in turn was very impressed with our knowledge of our native animals!
Middle Room Library Outing – The Roald Dahl Sessions
The Roald Dahl Sessions – Story teller Wayne O’ Connor brought to life the anarchic work of the much-loved author, Roald Dahl. The session combined high energy storytelling, live drawing and audience participation. The Middle Room were full of the joys of Dahl’s characters, excitement and fun when they got back to school following their visit to Dunshaughlin Library during their Autumn Book Festival. Jonathan reported back to Mrs B. after school: “Mrs Bockett, Wayne O’ Connor is an amazing actor!”
Airfield Estate – Our Big Day Out
Over the past few years we’ve been enjoying our Autumn Big Day Out each September – this year was no exception. We thought we couldn’t top our trip to the Botanic Gardens but we did! Airfield Estate in Dundrum is a proper working farm. We learned about jersey cows, care of hens, the everyday breeds and exotic ones too, goat- farming, herb gardens, pond life, insect life and much more. We saw vintage Rolls Royces and some of us got to dress up in period costume.
How do we distinguish a milking cow from a cow reared for its meat? Anyone remember? What has it got to do with Kim Kardashian!!?
Bhí an lá againn. Is breá linn an Fómhar!
