Our active Parents’ Association held a fun family afternoon for all children and their families at Dunsany Clubhouse on 17 December 2017. Good food and fun was enjoyed by all in attendance. Thank you PA and thank you Santa!
This year’s Christmas production was the brainchild of the Senior Room. There was a bit of everything in there – the 12 days of Christmas, the Grinch, Mr & Mrs Claus, gingerbread men, pine trees, all-sorts of angels – naughty & nice -, juicy holly berries and children through the ages, a little drummer boy, little stars, shepherds, children at play, etc… And of course rappers, ‘coz no Christmas Play is complete without the rappers!
Parents and grandparents enjoyed the variety of poems, raps, songs and good humour which the children put on display that night. All wrapped up in a lovely theme – ‘Where is Christmas?’
Winter 2017 brought very little snow but the pupils of Dunsany NS were determined to make the most of what little they had. Here they are enjoying a break from practising for their ‘Cruinniú na Nollag’, which will be held on Wednesday 20th @ 7pm.
The Senior Room completed mini History/Art projects on the Native Americans in autumn-winter 2017. Here they are talking to the pupils of the other classes about their work.
There was some excellent embroidery work in evidence in many of the projects and a very scary, life-like tomahawk!
This year our Christmas Charity work was the popular Shoebox Appeal. One of our grandparents approached us and asked us to get involved with this worthy charity. So we did!
We are proud to say that over 85 boxes were contributed by 55 families. Well done all!
Whenever time allows, the Senior Room work with their junior partners in the Junior Room. Here you’ll see us reading the Beatrix Potter Series for our partners!
Naughty, naughty Peter Rabbit!
In October 2017, Dunsany NS held a reception to welcome back our past pupil Megan Thynne, All Ireland Camogie medal winner. Megan accompanied by her mum Dawn and the winning team manager John Davis, gave an inspiring talk to all pupils about the importance of sport/doing what you enjoy most. Megan talked about the importance of accepting defeat in whatever it is you do and getting back up again and keeping on going. John Davis paid tribute to Megan’s great team spirit and can-do attitude. He told us all what a beautiful and modest person Megan is and how valued she is amongst her team members. Mrs Bockett recalled those very same qualities in Megan while she was a pupil in Dunsany NS.
Congratulations Megan, John and team on your All Ireland Win! A wonderful achievement.
This year’s Big Day Out was to The National Stud and Japanese Gardens in Co. Kildare. We learned lots about horse breeding and rearing and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the gardens. Another good choice for our very popular September whole-school outing – Our Big Day Out!
