RSA – Safety Officer – Talk to each class

Sarah from the RSA gave a very informative talk to each class about how to stay safe on our roads. Middle and Senior classes then wrote up the main points learned during Sarah’s informative talk.

  • Always be seen. Wear a hi-vis vest when walking, day and night.
  • Always wear your seatbelt. And wear it properly – across your shoulder and NOT under your arm.
  • If walking, walk on the right-hand side of the road. Always walk towards on-coming traffic.
  • If cycling, cycle on the left-hand side of the road, the same as the traffic.
  • Your bike should have lights and working dynamo.

Junior & Senior Room – Working together with our partners

We love to get the opportunity to work together. Here you’ll see us working on art, computers and Maths. Currently we’re working on a big project to help us look after our health ‘Looking after our bodies and minds.’ We’ve started our 5 Minute Fitness Programme each morning on the big yard, led by 6th class.

Can you do the ‘ The Ladder’, ‘Zombie kicks’, ‘Turbo Twister’, ‘Toe Taps’, ‘The Wriggle Worm’?

What’s your favourite?

2nd Prize –  €100 Clare O’ Brien Dunsany
3rd Prize –  David Duffy c/o Sueanne Duffy, Dunsany
4th Prize – Luke Byrne Kelly Dunsany
5th Prize –  Enda Cassidy Dunsany
6th Prize – Kathy Mc Ardle c/o Liane Cahill, Kilmessan
The weather may not have favoured our Chase but it certainly didn’t stop Santa paying us a visit! With the sudden calling off of the Dunsany Chase the whole community of Dunsany & Kilmessan got together to hold a ‘Hamper Sale’ and who should come along but Old St. Nick!
Judging by these photos it looks like the parents, the wonderful Chase Committee and the staff of Dunsany NS and Kilmessan NS had as much fun as the very pleased -looking children!
Although rumour has it that some of those grown-ups are just too naughty to be on Santa’s list!
The Staff of Dunsany NS & Kilmessan NS wish to thank most sincerely the Chase Committee, the parents of both schools, the Parents’ Associations of both schools and the wider community who supported this joint fundraiser so generously.

1916 Flag Presentation – Lá Speisialta

The 3rd of December 2015 was an auspicious occasion for our whole school community and for our wider community. We were delighted to welcome Lt. Colonel Virling, Private Berrill and to our school for the presentation of the National Flag and Proclamation. Sixth class pupils provided a guard of honour to welcome the members of the Defence Forces on their arrival and on their departure. Members of the local community joined us for the ceremony and Q & A session, and afterwards for a cup of tea.

Locals recalled with interest the visit of the Defence Forces 50 years ago to the school for the 5oth Anniversary of the Easter Rising. The Proclamation presented to the school on that visit was on display at this 2015 event. Some who were pupils then were in attendance again with us on the day.

A memorable day for all.

At the launch of the 24th Annual Dunsany/Kilmessan Chase were pupils from Dunsany/Kilmessan National Schools along with top jockey Paul Carberry, successful local trainer Matthew Smith and  accompanied by Vice Principal Mr. Donnelly aboard his horse Frank. This year’s Chase will take place on Sunday 13th December, meeting at 1pm for a 1.30pm start. As usual we provide refreshments, raffle, charity auction and plenty of fun afterwards in Dunsany Hall. Whether you have a horse or not come join us on the day! We will not have a lead rein this year.
