Bob-a-Job in aid of Spina Bifida

Sixth Class girls present a cheque for €795 to Peg, Maurice & Rosemary Lynch, Dunsany for the Louth/Meath Branch of the Spina Bifida Association.  Rosemary is a past pupil of the school.  The money was raised through carol singing by the senior pupils in Navan Shopping Centre @ Christmas and by  all the pupils themselves through their Bob-a-Week held in December.  Many thanks to all who contributed to this worthy cause.   Also pictured is parish priest Fr. T. Toner.

We have been working hard on our carols since the end of November. We are delighted that Donie Clynch, Sinead Cusack & Laura Glennon have volunteered to conduct the choir this year. We ask that all those who are ‘home’ for Christmas this year please attend to ensure that this very atmospheric Mass is well served by the school again this year. It is always a very special Mass.

Our grateful thanks to our Parents’ Association who have subsidised the cost of our Christmas outings and to you all for supporting the work of the PA throughout the year which makes this sponsorship possible.

Christmas Choir 2013

It has been tradition that the children of Dunsany NS provide the choir at the vigil Mass on Christmas Eve. We are aware that a small number of children will be away for Christmas, but we appeal to all those ‘home’ for Christmas to please encourage their children to attend the choir on this night and to take them along so as they can take part. Above any year, there is great interest in the choir this year and we hope to have a choir one Saturday in the month from January onwards. We will be asking the pupils to give us an idea of numbers for Christmas Eve over the coming days. The arrangements are as follows…

  • Christmas Eve 24th @ 6pm.
  • Taking the choir this year are Donie Clynch, Sinéad Cusack & Laura Glennon.
  • Regular practices at school during coming weeks.
  • FIRST EVENING PRACTICE TUES. 10 Dec. @ 7:30pm (teacher will attend)    Capture bbb

Poem from past pupil James Swatman

Here’s one of my favourite poems from memory–received from a doctor in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda–author unknown–which I enjoy reciting

Love of Mankind

Love of humanity is not enough

Are you prepared to love the living stuff

In man or woman that you meet

In shops or houses, cafe’s and the street

Are you prepared to put warm intimacy

into chance contacts between you and me

Are you prepared to love the noble and base

The raging snarl and smile transfigured face

Ugly and beautiful, old and young

The tender phrase and adder-darting tongue

Can you say truthfully that you’d be kind

To the perverse and diseased in mind

The sick in body wrecked by poverty

and doomed by struggles never to be free

Will you join a new crusade and

dare the soul destroying dragon of despair

Will you defend the cause of sweet delight

Against the dark battalions of the night

Will you give homage to each unique mind

Foolish or wise

Then go and love mankind

The Big Match Screening took place on Friday 22nd November

celebrate soccer_boy_girl_clipart trophy

The Big Match screening took place  Friday 22 November @ 1.30pm. Parents were invited to come along and watch the dvd of our recent Cumann na mBunscol win. Mr Donnelly organised a little celebration for all present. The afternoon will ended with the presentation of the medals to the team members. ‘Betty’ attend the screening. [Betty is the nickname the boys have given the perpetual cup they won. Mrs Bockett reckons that if they fondle and rub it any more, they’ll wear off the names of all the previous winners!!]
