Special Autumn Day Out
In September this year (2014) we had a really Special Day Out @ Dalgan Park, Navan. The whole school went on a whole-day outing! Our guide was Ger Clarke, who gave us excellent talks as we walked through the woods learning all sorts of interesting things about nature.

Can you remember?…..
Can you name the wasp that lays its eggs on the reverse of an oak leaf?
The wood of which tree is used to make hurleys?
What is the black spot on the sycamore leaf a sign of? How did the dandelion get its name? (dande de leon)

Jam Making

Mr Donnelly recently made some yummy jam along with the help of all his class. They all picked some lovely blackberries and brought them in along with a jar each to bring the jam home. Mr Donnelly was well equipped with a fabulous pink apron and gloves to match. It’s the nicest jam we have tasted in ages!

Just some snaps of the wonderful weather we had.

Some of us were involved in gardening and others just enjoying that sunshine…….

Watch out some of us are looking at bugs!

In June 2014, each class had a special session with Dale Treadwell (Heritage in Schools Scheme) of RTE2 fame. Dale brought along his friend Harry Hedgehog for us to see. The Senior Room sowed wild flower seeds in our prepared patch of garden under Dale’s guidance. In these pics you’ll see how those wildflowers blossomed and became a haven for our caterpillar and bee friends by the time we got back to school in September.

Sports Day 2014. It was a beautiful sunny day with lots of sports fun! As ever, the fruit breaks laid on by the PA went down a treat. The after-busy-sports-day ice-cream went down well too.

Visit to Dunsany Castle June 2014

When all the pupils were sleeping in on the first morning of the holidays, 6th class were busy having a very enjoyable and informative morning at Dunsany Castle. On foot of an invitation from Lord Dunsany and his mother Lady Dunsany, we took ourselves up to the majestic Dunsany Castle for a hands-on, exciting walk-through history on 27 June 2014.

Our guide was long-serving member of staff at the Castle, the very knowledgeable Michael Smyth. Michael gave us the full tour and made the Castle’s history come alive for us.

Our sincere thanks to Michael, Lord Dunsany and Lady Dunsany for affording us this unique opportunity.

Farewell 6th Class 2014

We bade farewell to our 6th class friends at the end of June. We saw them off in style with an evening reception attended by all. There was music, singing, dancing, poetry, food and PowerPoint presentations from 5th class. We wish them every success along the way and will always be glad to welcome them back.
